Aublysodon Skull
Scale 1:1 = Life Size.
Size 29" long
Size: 12" wide ( matrix )
Cost $ 1500
Item # dino/aubly-1500cm
Cretaceous  Age from Montana

Note: This is the right profile. According to some paleontologists this dinosaur was a  Primative  Tyrannosaurid.

FYI:
Cast Material: Non-Toxic AquaResin (Outer shell is Aquaresin, Inner Shell is plaster & fiberglass mat for strength).Hand Painted, Clearcoat Protectant, Choice of Mount (Wall or Table).

This replica features the  Theropod's skull profile, in-situ. This means it is the fossils original location in the matrix. The original fossils were not removed from the matrix before making this replica. This skull is one of the best I have ever seen from a meat eating dinosaur. When the dinosaur was buried, it shifted the skull in the center, which you can see in the top image. The rest of it is outstanding. The dentition is also excellent, down to the serration in the teeth. This is one of the best (if not the best) examples of a Tyrannosaurid skull. There is no restoration to the skull, it is really all there! This is an excellent replica with outstanding detail. This series will be limited to 250 pieces. All will be numbered and include a certificate.

The Montana Dueling Dinosaurs

In 2006, a team of private fossil collectors from Montana were prospecting south-west of Jordan Montana. They were looking in an area that contained a small outcrop of the Judith River Formation. The team discovered an herbivore hip exposed. Excavation began on the site which lasted for two months. By the end of the excavation, a Ceratopsian and a Tyrannosaurid were exposed. Both specimens were articulated and near 100% complete. Sediments in the quarry led the team to believe that the two dinosaurs were buried together at the same time. The site also led the team to believe that the two dinosaurs may have been interacting before they were buried.

The specimens were jacketed using plaster and burlap and removed from the quarry. They were then transported to Fort Peck Montana for the preparation and casting processes. CK Preparations headed up the preparation in Fort Peck.

The specimens have been surface prepared, exposing the top half of the two dinosaurs. CKP is in the process of identifying the two dinosaurs, which has turned out to be a difficult task. Currently, it is believed that the Tyrannosaurid is an Aublysodon, which is based on the unserrated premaxilla teeth. Aublysodon is a species that has been under debate among paleontologists for several years since very little fossil material is available. The main basis for this species is the premaxilla teeth. Several paleontologists believe that the unserrated premaxilla teeth that are found are from other immature Tyrannosaurids, not Aublysodon. It currently is believed that the MDD Tyrannosaurid is an adult, based on the thickness of the compact bone in the femur, size of the skull in proportion to the body, and advanced healing in pathology on the left hand. There is still a debate over the identification. Several people, including academic paleontologists, are working on the identification process further.

The Ceratopsian is proving to be just as difficult to identify. Based on its size and skull features (no postorbital or nasal horn cores) the specimen may turn out to be a Pachyrhinosaurus, however it does not fit well with this dinosaur. Pachyrhinosaurus is supposed to have a large rugose growth over the nasal and horn cores on the frill. This specimen has neither. It could be that this represents sexual dimorphism within the species. If Pachyrhinosaurus is ruled out, it is probable that the specimen is a new species of Ceratopsian.

(((  The only piece of the Ceratopsian available is the Nasal Horn Core )))

Whatever the two specimens turn out to be, they will be the most complete ever found. Another important aspect of the two dinosaurs is the possible interaction before burial. The Ceratopsian has teeth imbedded in is back and neck. The teeth match the same species of dinosaur as the Tyrannosaurid. Over 14 teeth were found associated with the Ceratopsian. The Tyrannosaurid is missing several teeth from its dentition, (over 50%). Visibly, several teeth found associated with the Ceratopsian match the broken teeth missing from the Tyrannosaurid. To match them perfectly, the teeth and roots still in position will need to be cross-sectioned.

Another unique feature of the site is the thickness of the sediments containing the fossils. Normally in fossil quarries, there is very apparent cross-bedding of the sediments. The cross-bedding represents time in the burial process. A layer is put down at one time and then another layer at another time. Each layer can be analyzed to tell and explain how the sediments were placed. The layer of sediment in the MDD quarry is over 12 feet thick with no apparent cross bedding. The layer is also totally void of any animal or pant life. This suggests that a massive layer of sediment was placed at one time. With the delicate nature of the preservation, this probably rules out water being the primary carrier of the sediments. It is proposed that the sediments were deposited by a dry event, like a cliff collapse. Skin impressions on the hip of the Ceratopsian, large distances between vertebra, and no apparent signs of scavenging contribute to the idea of a rapid burial.

Much more information will be coming from this outstanding discovery in the future as both private and public paleontologists view and study these specimens.

Camarasaurus lentus Skull Juvenile

Weight 7 lbs.
Cost $ 450
Item # dino/camarask-450/rg
Jurassic Age from Utah.
Note:
This is an original skull reproduction made out of resin.
3 dimensional

Camarasaurus was one of the smallest Sauropods. Its neck was shorter, and its tail was much shorter, than the tails of other sauropods. Camarasaurus grew to be 30 to 60 feet long and 15 feet high at the hips. There were holes in the vertebrae to lighten the weight of the backbone. Its forelegs were nearly as long as its hind legs, making the back almost level. The head of this plant eater was larger and shorter than those of most sauropods. Many skeletons of this dinosaur have been found in the western United States. A complete skeleton of a 17 foot long juvenile in nearly perfect condition was found in Utah.

This is a copy of the original drawing from the late 1800's

New specimen of Dinosaur
Dracorex hogwartsia

Please Read

In 2006 a new species of Pachycephalosaur was named, it was called Dracorex hogwartsia after the fictional "Hogwarts Academy" of author J. K. Rowling. This new species looks like the Stygimoloch spinifer accept it lacks the dome!

The skull we are featuring is a new one. It contains the lower jaws and predentary, not present in the type specimen. This specimen (CKP-STD06) was crushed, but is still a very exciting specimen. The entire skull was covered in a hard iron rich matrix that took hundreds of hours to prepare.  With the popularity of the "Harry Potter" books, this is a great way to introduce another generation to dinosaurs and our earths history.

The replica comes in 3 sections, the main head section and the two horn cores, since they were not attached to the skull any more. All parts of the skull are cast in a plastic resin, making them extremely tough. They are painted to match the original patina of the fossil. The detail of the teeth come out great in the replica. The horn cores are similar, but the left horn core has 3 large horns coming out and the right has only one.

Image A is of the left side of the skull. This is the best side, showing a decent profile. The jugal has a really nice horn (osteoderm). You can see that all of the snout had become dissarticulated and piled up. It looks like all of the elements of the snout and nasal are present, including the pre maxilla and predentary!

Image E
is of the right side. This was exposed to the surface and experienced severe weathering. There are very few identifiable parts, but there is a tooth row!

Image H
is a top-down view. Here, you can see the left squamosal shelf and you can really see how crushed the skull is.

Image B
is of the two horn cores. The one on the right is the left one and the one on the left is the right one.

Image C
is a close-up of the left maxilla and dentary.

 Image F & G   Shows the tooth

The Original Fossil: (CKP-STD06)
The original fossil for this replica was collected on private land in North Eastern Montana. It comes from the upper Hell Creek Formation. The fossil was crushed, but contained the dentary area which was not present on the previous specimen. The replica is an exact copy of the original fossil in its original condition. This is the first Dracorex skull available to be purchased. The original fossil is currently being prepared further to separate the individual skull elements.

Type Species - Dracorex hogwartsia, n. gen., n.sp.
Distribution - late Cretaceous of North America.
Etymology - from the Latin words: draco (meaning dragon) + rex (meaning king). Translation: "dragon king"
Diagnosis - same as for species.
Holotype - TCMI 2004.17.1, nearly complete skull, one lower tooth, plus first, third, eighth and ninth cervical vertebra..
Etymology - After the fictional "Hogwarts Academy," invention of author J.K. Rowling, the species named in honor of her contribution to children's education and the joy of exploration

Dracorex hogwartsia skull ( Restored )
Cost $650
Size 20"
Age Late Cretaceous
Loc: NE.Montana
Item # dino/dracorex2 - 650bsr/cm

This is the first replica available for Dracorex hogwartsia restored as a complete profile . This profile contains the dentary and pre-dentary, both were not present on the first skull described. Currently, there are only two skulls that have been found this complete. The other skull is in the collections of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. This skull also shows the front teeth of Dracorex, this is a very exciting part. The front teeth are serrated, looking as if this may be the first evidence of an omnivore!

This replica is cast in solid resin and is made to hang on a wall or rest on a table. If you would like a wall hanger installed, we will do it at no extra charge.

Item Size: About 20 inches long
Composition: Solid plastic resin
Finish: Hand painted with acrylic clear coat

Artist idea of what this dinosaur may have looked like.

Area in China where this Dinosaur was found.

FYI: This Dinosaur was discovered in 1981 by Dr.Xi-Jin Zhao and at this time  the dinosaur was referred to as Jiangiunmiaosaurus. In 1984 Dr.Phil Currie with Dr.Zhao
the specimen found in 1981 was excavated out of the rock and was given the Genus name Monolophosaurus. According to both scientists this dinosaur  was a medium sized theropod and as you can see by the teeth definitely a carnivore. What makes this theropod stand out among all other theropod's is the prominent medial crest from the nasal area to a point  near the eyes.It is estimated that this dinosaur may have reached 17 1/2 feet long.
