Gurney’s books about Dinotopia, have sold over two million copies and were the basis for a six part miniseries that aired on ABC, and is now on DVD. Gurney began his career as a background painter for animated films and went on to create illustrations of lost civilizations for National Geographic. In his spare time, he created the paintings Waterfall City and Dinosaur Parade, which provided inspiration for Dinotopia.

“Ever since I was young, it has been my dream to create a world, complete and real in every detail. Dinotopia is the answer to that dream, and I am excited by the opportunity to translate the paintings to mural size,” says Gurney who lives in the Hudson Valley of New York with his wife, two sons, and a parakeet. Some inexpensive murals, available elsewhere, are printed on thin paper that becomes still weaker when dampened with paste. Professional paperhangers have complained about the corners tearing off these cheap murals caused simply by the weight of the wet paper.
